KATHMANDU: Lalitpur Metropolitan City has brought an environmental monitoring van into operation to strengthen environmental protection and cleanliness management within the city.

The van officially came into service on Thursday. Mayor Chiribabu Maharjan inaugurated the vehicle during a special program.

The environmental van will be operated by the metropolitan police. It will be used to monitor activities that contribute to pollution, including open burning, burning of plastic materials, vehicles emitting excessive smoke, and industries operating against environmental standards.

Authorities say the van will also help take immediate action against littering, noise pollution, and damage to roadside greenery.

The metropolitan city believes the new initiative will play an active role in controlling rising pollution levels and maintaining environmental discipline across Lalitpur.
