KATHMANDU: Maruti Suzuki has launched the facelifted Baleno in India, with prices starting at 610,000 Indian rupees (ex-showroom). The updated premium hatchback gets new features, improved safety and a new engine.
The Baleno retains the overall shape of the outgoing model but gets several exterior updates. It features revised projector LED headlamps with integrated DRLs, a new grille and a redesigned front bumper.
The rear design remains largely unchanged. It now gets a shark-fin antenna, while the side profile features new 16-inch alloy wheels. Maruti Suzuki also offers a new Enigmatic Teal exterior color.
The cabin retains the existing dashboard layout with a floating infotainment screen and physical controls. The facelift gets a dual-tone blue and black interior theme.
The new Baleno gets front ventilated seats, claimed to be a first-in-segment feature. Other additions include a wireless charger, Clarion sound system, tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS), head-up display and a 360-degree camera.
Safety has also been upgraded with six airbags and Level 2 ADAS. The system includes adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, lane departure warning, lane departure prevention, high-beam assist and forward collision warning.
The facelifted Baleno is powered by a 1.2-liter three-cylinder Z-Series petrol engine. The same engine is also used in the Swift and Dzire.
The engine is offered with both manual and automatic transmission options. Maruti Suzuki has also introduced a CNG variant with an automatic transmission.
The updated Baleno continues to compete with models such as the Hyundai i20 and Tata Altroz in the Indian premium hatchback segment. The prices of higher trims are yet to be announced.
