KATHMANDU: The popularity of electric cars is growing rapidly in Nepal. More than 70 percent of new cars sold in the country are now EVs. Sales have continued to rise every year.

Government tax incentives, lower operating costs, expanding charging infrastructure and better features at competitive prices have attracted more buyers towards EVs.

More than 50 EV models from over three dozen brands are currently available in Nepal. These include hatchbacks, sedans, SUVs and luxury models. Among them, SUVs have emerged as the best-selling segment.

Around a dozen electric SUVs have established a strong presence in the market. So far, nine EV models have crossed the 1,000-unit sales mark. Among them, these three SUVs have sold more than 2,000 units each.
