KATHMANDU: FAW-Volkswagen’s Jetta M6 electric sedan has received more than 10,000 locked orders within 19 hours of its launch in China on October 22, 2026. The electric sedan is priced from USD 11,900, making it an affordable option in China’s competitive electric vehicle market.
The Jetta brand, which previously offered only combustion-engine vehicles in China, has entered the electric vehicle segment with the M6. The model targets budget-conscious buyers looking for an affordable electric sedan with modern technology.
The joint venture has also announced a safety pledge covering the M6’s assisted driving system. It says it will compensate owners for incidents and collisions related to the system during the first year of ownership.
The Jetta M6 is available in three variants, priced between USD 11,900 and USD 14,900.
The entry-level model uses a 42.9 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery supplied by CALB. Its front-mounted electric motor produces 113 kW, equivalent to around 152 hp.
The model offers a claimed driving range of 465 km under the China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC), or approximately 377 km under the WLTP cycle. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.3 seconds.
Higher variants feature a larger 51.9 kWh battery and a more powerful 145 kW motor producing around 194 hp. These versions offer a claimed CLTC range of 555 km and accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.8 seconds.
All variants use front-wheel drive. The Jetta M6 offers advanced driver assistance systems, with Level 2 features available on the top variant.
The system uses Horizon Robotics’ Journey 6M chip and incorporates its GAIA 2.0 World Model technology. The sedan also supports Navigate on Autopilot (NoA) functions for urban roads and highways.
Another notable feature is a fold-flat sleeping arrangement. Both front seats can be folded flat to create a long, level surface, allowing occupants to rest inside the car during charging stops.
The Jetta M6 measures 4,806 mm in length, 1,868 mm in width and 1,500 mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 2,820 mm.
The sedan uses MacPherson struts at the front and a torsion-beam suspension setup at the rear. It also supports vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality, with an output of up to 3.5 kW for powering external electrical devices.
