KATHMANDU: Amid the spotlight on four-wheelers at NADA Auto Show 2026, one motorcycle managed to draw significant attention. The Yamaha XSR 155, introduced in Nepal after a long gap in the company’s new-product lineup, became one of the major attractions at the show.
The neo-retro motorcycle received a strong response during the six-day NADA Auto Show. According to MAW Rides, Yamaha’s authorized distributor in Nepal, 428 units of the XSR 155 were booked during the event.
The response is notable as the XSR 155 is entering a market crowded with new motorcycle brands and models. Yamaha also opened special pre-bookings during the launch period, allowing early buyers to secure their place among the first customers.
The Yamaha XSR 155 uses a 155cc liquid-cooled engine with Variable Valve Actuation (VVA). The motorcycle is based on Yamaha’s MT-15 platform, while the MT platform itself shares its technical DNA with Yamaha’s R-Series.

This gives the XSR 155 a familiar performance foundation rather than an entirely new mechanical package. Yamaha has combined the engine and sporty chassis technology with a completely different styling approach.
The result is a motorcycle that offers a sporty mechanical character with a neo-retro appearance.
Unlike many motorcycles in the 150cc segment, the XSR 155 does not rely on sharp bodywork or an aggressive design. It gets a round LED headlamp, teardrop-shaped fuel tank, flat bench-style seat and minimal bodywork.
The design gives the motorcycle a distinctive road presence. It looks classic at first glance but does not feel outdated.

For younger riders, this combination could be a major attraction. The XSR 155 offers the performance character associated with Yamaha’s 155cc motorcycles while giving riders a completely different visual identity.
The motorcycle market in Nepal is changing. Buyers are no longer looking only at engine displacement and mileage when choosing a motorcycle.
Design, brand image, performance, technology, comfort and lifestyle appeal are becoming increasingly important factors in the buying decision.
The XSR 155 fits directly into this trend. Its design follows Yamaha’s neo-retro philosophy, combining elements inspired by classic motorcycles with modern technology and performance.
Its round LED headlamp and teardrop fuel tank give it a classic character, while the modern engine and chassis keep the motorcycle relevant for today’s riders.
This balance makes the XSR 155 different from both conventional street bikes and traditional retro motorcycles.
The price of motorcycles has increased significantly in recent years. As the purchase value rises, customers tend to consider more than just styling and engine performance.

Service availability, spare parts, maintenance costs and resale value also become important.
This gives established brands an advantage. Yamaha has a long presence in Nepal, while MAW Rides operates its sales and service network across the country.
For a motorcycle positioned in the premium 150cc segment, the established Yamaha brand could therefore play an important role in the buying decision.
The initial response at NADA suggests that the XSR 155 has already created strong interest among Nepali riders. With 428 bookings recorded during the six-day show, the motorcycle has made a strong start in Nepal.
The bigger test, however, will be whether Yamaha can maintain this momentum after the excitement of NADA Auto Show fades.
