KATHMANDU : Night-time public transport service has come into operation in the Kathmandu Valley from today.
The service is launched through a joint effort of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Chandragiri Municipality, Budhanilkantha Municipality, and Sajha Yatayat.
Electric night buses will operate daily from 8:00 PM to 11:00 PM on two main corridors: north–south and east–west.
On the north–south route, buses will run from Lagankhel to Budhanilkantha via Patan Hospital, Alka, Norvic Hospital, Prasuti Griha, Trauma Center, Bir Hospital, Kanti Children’s Hospital, Teaching Hospital, and Gangalal Heart Center. The total route length is 16 km.
On the east–west route, buses will operate from Thankot to Tribhuvan International Airport via Satungal, Kalanki, Kalimati, Tripureshwor, Thapathali, Maitighar Mandala, Baneshwor, Minbhawan, and Tinkune. This route covers 20 km.
A total of four electric buses will be deployed across the two routes. Buses are scheduled at 20-minute intervals at designated stops.
Each bus will be equipped with CCTV cameras, and municipal police personnel will be present to support passenger safety.
