KATHMANDU: The second-generation Kia Sonet has been spotted testing on Indian roads for the first time. Kia is expected to launch the new compact SUV in 2027.
The upcoming Sonet, codenamed QY2E, will be based on the K1 platform. The same platform is also used in the Kia Syros. Reports suggest the new model could get a slightly longer wheelbase for better rear seat comfort.
In terms of design, the new Sonet appears inspired by the Kia Seltos. Spy images show a wide front grille, LED headlamps, redesigned ORVMs and new dual-tone alloy wheels. The test model was also seen with a sunroof.
Kia is likely to continue with the existing engine lineup. The SUV could be offered with a 1.2-liter naturally aspirated petrol, 1.0-liter turbo petrol and 1.5-liter diesel engine options. The company is also reportedly working on a strong-hybrid version of the Sonet.
