KATHMANDU: A new test vehicle from Maruti Suzuki has been spotted testing in India, hinting at a possible new electric SUV for the brand.
The heavily camouflaged model is believed to be the upcoming YMC electric SUV, which is expected to sit above the eVitara in the company’s EV lineup. Reports suggest the model could arrive with both 5-seat and 7-seat configurations.
The SUV appears to use the same Heartect-e platform as the eVitara and may also share its 18-inch alloy wheels and 225-section tires. Spy images also show no visible exhaust, further strengthening speculation that it is a fully electric vehicle.
Design elements seen on the test mule include SUV-style proportions, connected LED tail lamps, a shark-fin antenna, and styling cues similar to the recently introduced Victoris SUV. The front fascia appears to feature a slim upper grille and vertically positioned headlamps with LED DRLs.
Some reports also suggest the vehicle could be a facelifted Grand Vitara or even a plug-in hybrid model. However, current indications strongly point towards a larger electric SUV positioned above the eVitara.
Maruti Suzuki has not officially confirmed details about the upcoming model yet.
