KATHMANDU: Chery Automobile has announced a lifetime warranty on the battery, electric motor and motor control unit for the first owner of all its new energy vehicles (NEVs) equipped with Rhino batteries in China.

The warranty applies to private-use vehicles and comes as China enforces its new mandatory EV battery safety standard from July 1, 2026, writes Chinese news media.

The automaker said all Chery, Exeed, Jetour and iCaur models fitted with Rhino batteries comply with the new GB38031-2025 battery safety regulation. Under the new policy, if a vehicle suffers thermal runaway caused by a battery defect, Chery will replace it with a new vehicle of the same model.

The latest GB38031-2025 standard is regarded as one of the world’s strictest EV battery safety regulations. It requires batteries to prevent fire or explosion after thermal runaway, withstand multiple impact tests and remain safe even after 300 fast-charging cycles.

Chery has been strengthening its EV portfolio with continued investment in battery technology, including solid-state batteries targeted for commercialization in 2027. The company’s QQ3 EV is currently one of its best-selling electric models in China.

In the Nepalese market, SPG Automobiles, the authorized distributor of Chery, is set to officially launch the Chery QQ3 EV at the NAIMA Nepal Mobility Expo.
