KATHMANDU: Nepal’s automotive market is set to welcome around half a dozen new vehicle brands over the next month. While several names are preparing to enter the market, Hongqi, Jetour, and Chery QQ are expected to attract the most attention.
The three brands already enjoy strong recognition in international markets for different reasons. Hongqi is China’s flagship luxury marque, Jetour has built a reputation in the global SUV segment, and Chery QQ is expected to enter Nepal with an affordable electric hatchback.
Nepal’s passenger vehicle market has increasingly become design and feature-driven. Buyers now place greater emphasis on styling, technology, safety and value, creating opportunities for new brands that can offer a strong combination of these qualities.
Hongqi: China’s premium luxury brand
Hongqi is widely regarded as China’s leading luxury automobile brand. It competes with premium car manufacturers such as Rolls-Royce, Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Audi in its home market. The brand is also known for supplying official vehicles for China’s top government leadership.

Established in 1958 by state-owned FAW Group, Hongqi, meaning “Red Flag” represents China’s national prestige and automotive heritage.
Its vehicles are known for premium design, advanced technology, refined interiors and high safety standards.
In Nepal, Advanced Automobiles is preparing to introduce the Hongqi HS3 compact SUV and the Hongqi H9 luxury sedan. The brand is expected to target buyers looking for premium alternatives in the luxury vehicle segment.
Jetour: Global SUV specialist
Jetour, a subsidiary of Chery Holding Group, has rapidly expanded its presence in overseas markets. The brand focuses primarily on SUVs designed for lifestyle and adventure-oriented customers.
Its products have gained popularity across the Middle East, Africa and Australia, where several models have recorded strong demand.

In Nepal, the Jetour brand will be introduced by the Laxmi Group, with the Jetour T2 becoming its first model. The plug-in hybrid SUV features a four-wheel-drive system and is expected to appeal to buyers looking for an electrified SUV that can handle both highways and challenging terrain.
Founded in 2018, Jetour has positioned itself as a manufacturer of spacious SUVs offering premium features at competitive prices. The brand has achieved stronger recognition in export markets than in China, making its entry into Nepal particularly noteworthy.
Chery QQ: affordable urban EV
Chery is also bringing its new-energy brand Chery QQ to Nepal. While the QQ name was previously associated with one of Chery’s popular small cars, it has now been revived as a dedicated electric vehicle brand.

SPG Automobiles will introduce the Chery QQ brand in Nepal, with the QQ Duomi set to become its first model. The compact electric hatchback is designed for urban mobility and is expected to attract buyers with its clean design, modern features and competitive pricing.
The QQ Duomi is expected to strengthen competition in Nepal’s entry-level EV segment by targeting young buyers and customers looking for an affordable city car.
As demand for compact electric vehicles continues to grow, the performance of the QQ Duomi could play a key role in establishing the Chery QQ brand in the Nepali market.
