KATHMANDU: Banks are offering low-interest auto loans targeting the ongoing NAIMA Mobility Expo 2026 at Bhrikutimandap, Kathmandu.
Banks have introduced these schemes to attract customers as vehicle sales are expected to increase during the expo. The banking system currently has more than Rs. 13 trillion in excess liquidity due to weak credit demand.
With the cost of deposits falling, the average bank base rate has dropped to around 5%. This has also brought lending rates to near-record lows.
At the NAIMA Expo, customers can get auto loans at rates starting from 5.25%. This is among the lowest auto loan rates seen in Nepal.
Bank-wise auto loan interest rates
Global IME Bank, NMB Bank and Siddhartha Bank are participating in the NAIMA Expo. Global IME has introduced the lowest lending rate among them.
Global IME Bank is offering auto loans at a minimum interest rate of 5.25%. Customers buying new vehicles at the NAIMA Expo can get loans by adding a 0.5% premium to the bank’s base rate.
The bank’s current base rate is 4.75%. The loan rate will change automatically if the base rate changes.
Global IME has also introduced a fixed-rate scheme for customers buying new EVs. Under the scheme, customers can get a 5.99% fixed interest rate for three years. After three years, the rate will be based on the bank’s base rate plus a maximum premium of 2%.
The bank has also set up a loan service counter at the expo. Customers can apply for loans from the expo itself. Global IME says it can issue a loan approval letter within three days after completion of the required documents.
Siddhartha Bank is offering auto loans at a rate equal to its base rate plus a 1% premium. Its base rate stood at 5.13% at the end of Ashad. Customers can therefore get auto loans at 6.13%. The bank charges a processing fee of just 0.5%.
NMB Bank has introduced an EV-focused auto loan scheme. Customers can get loans by adding a 0.5% premium to the bank’s base rate.
NMB’s current base rate is 5.11%, meaning customers can get EV loans at 5.61%. The bank has also started offering loans for the purchase of reconditioned EVs for the first time in Nepal.
Hulas Finserv has also introduced an easy financing scheme for the NAIMA Expo. It will provide loans for both new and used vehicles without charging a service fee.
Although Nabil Bank is not participating in the NAIMA Expo, it is offering auto loans at 5.44%. Customers taking the loan will have to pay a 0.75% administrative fee and a 0.15% commitment fee.
Other banks that are not participating in the expo are also offering vehicle loans by adding around 0.5% to 1% premium to their base rates. As a result, customers can currently access auto loans at around 6% to 6.5% interest rates.
