KATHMANDU: Electric hatchbacks continue to see demand in Nepal, even as the overall hatchback segment gradually loses ground to entry-level SUVs.
Around a dozen electric hatchback models are currently available in Nepal. Most are priced between Rs 2.7 million and Rs 3.5 million, while entry-level electric SUVs are available from around Rs 3.3 million. This has made SUVs increasingly attractive to buyers.
Between January and September 15, 2026, Nepal imported 9,251 electric cars. Hatchbacks accounted for 1,451 units, or 15.68% of the total. Their share was around 30% in previous years.
Tiago EV and Atto 1 lead the segment
The Tata Tiago EV and BYD Atto 1 are in a close race for the top spot among electric hatchbacks.
Sipradi Trading imported 505 units of the Tiago EV during the period, making it the segment leader. Demand for the model has increased following the arrival of its facelift version. It is also one of the most affordable electric hatchbacks in Nepal, with prices starting at Rs 2.899 million.

BYD Atto 1 followed closely with 471 units imported by Cimex Inc. It was only 34 units behind the Tiago EV. The Atto 1 is priced from Rs 3.075 million.
Dongfeng Nammi Box ranked third with 256 units imported by MAW Vriddhi. It starts at Rs 3.099 million.

Other electric hatchbacks recorded significantly lower import volumes. However, the arrival of new models indicates that competition in the segment is continuing to grow.
MG Windsor EV ranked fourth with 67 units imported by G.O. Automobiles. Proton e.MAS 5 followed with 66 units imported by Jagdamba Motors in just two months after its launch in Nepal.

CG Motors imported 48 units of the Dayun EV, while Laxmi MotorHub brought in 23 units of the Arcfox T1. VG Impex imported 14 units of the ORA 3 during the period.
