KATHMANDU: Scooters in Nepal have traditionally been seen as convenient two-wheelers for daily commuting, especially in urban areas. However, the market now offers more powerful scooters with sporty designs, high-performance engines, and modern technology.

Interest in scooters with engine capacities above 150cc has been growing. These scooters are also suitable for recreational rides and longer journeys, attracting more buyers. Considering this demand, distributors have been bringing higher-capacity scooters to Nepal.

Currently, three scooters stand out in this segment: the TVS NTORQ 150, Yamaha Aerox 155, and Aprilia SR 175 HPE.

All three prioritize sporty styling and performance. Here, we compare their engine capacities, power, safety features, prices, and other key specifications.

TVS NTORQ 150: a combination of technology and sporty design

The TVS NTORQ 150 has recently gone on sale in Nepal. Jagdamba Motors, the authorized distributor of TVS in Nepal, has priced the scooter at Rs 369,900.

The scooter is powered by a 149.7cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled, three-valve fuel-injected engine. It produces a maximum power of 13.2 PS and peak torque of 14.2 Nm. The NTORQ 150 can accelerate from 0 to 60 km/h in 6.3 seconds and has a claimed top speed of 104 km/h.

The scooter features an aerodynamic body, projector headlight, sporty taillight, and attractive alloy wheels. These elements give it a distinctive appearance compared with conventional commuter scooters. Another key highlight is TVS SmartXonnect technology.

Its features include a TFT display, smartphone connectivity, turn-by-turn navigation, and call and message alerts. For safety, it gets single-channel ABS and traction control. The 22-liter under-seat storage compartment also makes it practical for daily use.

For buyers looking for technology, everyday practicality, and sporty styling in one scooter, the NTORQ 150 can be an attractive option.

Aprilia SR 175 HPE: bigger engine and racing-inspired styling

The Aprilia SR 175 HPE is available in Nepal at Rs 456,500. Delta Autocorp, the authorized distributor of Aprilia in Nepal, started selling the scooter at the NADA Auto Show 2026.

The SR 175 HPE is powered by a 174.7cc, single-cylinder, three-valve, air-cooled engine with BS6 OBD2 Stage B compliance. According to the official Nepal specifications, it produces 13.8 bhp of maximum power and 14.14 Nm of peak torque.

The main attractions of the SR 175 are its aggressive design, racing-inspired styling, and handling-focused setup. It features 14-inch alloy wheels, telescopic front suspension, and a rear monoshock.

The scooter also gets a color TFT display, LED lighting, and a front disc brake with ABS. Its fuel tank has a capacity of 6 liters.

Although the Aprilia has the largest engine among these three scooters, that does not necessarily mean it outperforms the other two in every respect. Engine tuning, vehicle weight, and the RPM at which power is delivered also affect performance.

The Aprilia SR 175 HPE is an option for buyers who prioritize sporty handling, distinctive styling, and a larger engine.

Yamaha Aerox 155: VVA engine and maxi-scooter identity

The Yamaha Aerox 155 is one of the premium sporty scooters available in Nepal. MAW Rides has been selling the model in the Nepali market for several years. The company has priced it at Rs 504,900.

The Aerox is powered by a 155cc, liquid-cooled, four-valve engine equipped with Variable Valve Actuation (VVA) technology. It uses the same engine platform found in the Yamaha R15 and MT-15.

The engine produces a maximum power of 15 PS and peak torque of 13.9 Nm. Among these three scooters, the Aerox 155 has the highest claimed maximum power output.

The Aerox 155 has a design that differs from conventional scooters. Its large body, motorcycle-inspired styling, sporty seat, LED headlight, and 14-inch wheels give it a maxi-sport scooter identity.

Its features include a front disc brake with ABS, a wide rear tire, a digital instrument cluster, smartphone connectivity through the Yamaha Connect app, and traction control. The under-seat storage capacity is approximately 24.5 liters, as stated in the supplied model information.

The liquid-cooled engine and VVA technology help the Aerox deliver power across different engine speeds. It is a suitable option for buyers who want a scooter that offers a riding experience closer to that of a motorcycle.

Conclusion

The TVS NTORQ 150 can be an attractive option for buyers seeking a balance of technology, practicality, sporty styling, and price.

The Aprilia SR 175 HPE may appeal to those who prefer racing-inspired styling, sporty handling, and a larger engine.

Meanwhile, the Yamaha Aerox 155 is suitable for buyers who prioritize higher power output, a liquid-cooled engine, and a maxi-scooter design.

The final choice depends on the buyer’s budget, riding preferences, and desired features.
