KATHMANDU: Mercedes-AMG has unveiled the new GT SUV, an all-electric performance SUV with up to 1,153 horsepower and peak DC charging power of 710 kW. The company claims the vehicle can charge from 10% to 80% in just 12 minutes.

The new SUV is based on the AMG.EA platform, which also underpins the AMG GT 4-Door electric model. It features a larger battery, improved charging performance and advanced suspension technology.

Mercedes-AMG will offer the model in three variants: the GT 53, GT 55 and GT 63. All three variants feature all-wheel drive. The system can disconnect the front motors when they are not needed to improve efficiency.

The GT 53 uses a two-speed rear transmission, while the GT 55 and GT 63 feature three motors. The top variants can independently control power to each rear wheel for improved cornering performance.

The flagship GT 63 produces 1,153 hp and 1,475 lb-ft of torque. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in an estimated 2.6 seconds. Its top speed reaches 168 mph.

The GT 55 produces 805 hp and 1,372 lb-ft of torque. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in three seconds. Its top speed can reach 168 mph with the optional package.

Meanwhile, the entry-level GT 53 produces 536 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 4.1 seconds and reach a top speed of 143 mph.

The GT 55 and GT 63 come with a 128 kWh usable battery pack. Mercedes-AMG claims these variants can charge from 10% to 80% in 12 minutes using a compatible high-power charger.

The company also claims the SUV can add 83 kWh of energy in 10 minutes under suitable charging conditions. Peak charging power reaches 710 kW.

On a 400 kW charger, the GT 55 and GT 63 require around 16 minutes to charge from 10% to 80%.

The GT 53 uses a smaller battery and supports peak charging power of up to 600 kW. It can charge from 10% to 80% in 11 minutes under suitable conditions.

All variants support 11 kW AC charging. Mercedes-AMG targets a WLTP driving range of 620 to 700 kilometers for the GT 55 and GT 63. The GT 53 is expected to deliver a range of 597 to 668 kilometers.

The AMG GT SUV features a wide front grille, star-shaped daytime running lights and muscular wheel arches. Its sloping roofline gives it a sporty appearance. The GT 55 and GT 63 also feature an active rear spoiler.

The cabin includes a 14-inch central touch=screen and a 10.2-inch digital instrument display. Buyers can also opt for a separate 14-inch passenger display.

The SUV features a panoramic glass roof that can switch between transparent and opaque. It also gets rotary controls for driving response, handling and traction.

Mercedes-AMG has equipped the GT SUV with Active Ride Control+ suspension technology. The system controls body roll and helps reduce nose-diving during braking and body lift during acceleration.

Six-degree rear-wheel steering is standard across the range. Carbon-ceramic brakes are available on the GT 55 and standard on the GT 63.

The SUV also features simulated gear shifts, artificial engine sounds and seat vibrations to deliver a more engaging driving experience.

Mercedes-AMG has yet to announce pricing for the GT SUV.
