KATHMANDU: Three newly introduced electric vehicle models have gained a strong foothold in Nepal within a relatively short period. The Proton e.MAS 5, Deepal Nevo Q05 and Chery Q have attracted buyers, particularly during the festive season.

Among the three, the Proton e.MAS 5 has recorded the highest imports. Introduced in Nepal in July 2026, the Malaysian-brand hatchback is distributed by Jagdamba Motors. It is a rebadged version of Geely’s EX2.

The e.MAS 5 has recorded 359 units in imports so far. Its imports increased during the festive season, indicating growing demand for the new electric hatchback.

The Deepal Nevo Q05 ranks second, with 306 units imported by the end of October. Launched at the NADA Auto Show 2026, the model has quickly established itself in Nepal’s highly competitive Rs 5 million electric SUV segment.

Brought to Nepal by MAW Vriddhi, the Nevo Q05 has attracted buyers with its modern design, technology features and premium cabin. The model has also gained attention among celebrities.

The Chery Q, introduced by Pioneer Moto Corp, is another new model showing promising demand. The compact utility vehicle (CUV) carries Chery’s familiar nameplate and has recorded 200 units in imports so far.

Despite transportation and logistical challenges along the trade routes connecting China and Nepal, the company has managed to bring the vehicle into the country. Bookings for the Chery Q opened during the NAIMA Mobility Expo 2026. However, a large number of units cleared customs only in the final week of October.
