KATHMANDU: Bharat NCAP is preparing for a major upgrade to its vehicle safety program. The next phase, called Bharat NCAP 2.0, is expected to launch in 2027 with tougher and more detailed crash tests, according to Autocar India.
Since October 2023, vehicles in India have been tested under Bharat NCAP’s existing safety standards. The upcoming version will go further to assess how well cars protect passengers in different types of crashes.
The new protocol will include a full-frontal crash test in addition to the current frontal offset test, which only uses 40% of the car’s front width. Bharat NCAP 2.0 will also add a rear impact crash test to evaluate safety from behind.
To improve accuracy, the program plans to use more advanced crash dummies that can record detailed data during side pole and other impact tests.
These updates aim to make Bharat NCAP more comprehensive and bring Indian car safety standards closer to global levels.
