KATHMANDU: The Armed Police Force Nepal (APF) has released 775 electric vehicles that were taken under control on June 4, 2026, following an investigation that found no irregularities in their import process.

The vehicles were detained from the Jomsom and Korala border points and were later handed over to the concerned parties, according to APF Nepal’s 33 No. Battalion, Jomsom.

Deputy Superintendent of APF, Bhesh Raj Giri, said the release was made under central direction. He added that the vehicles have already departed towards their respective destinations.

The EVs were initially held over suspicions related to import procedures. The Ministry of Finance had formed a three-member investigation committee led by Bhupal Raj Shakya, Director of the Valuation Section under the Department of Customs, Policy and Operation Division.

The committee concluded that no irregularities were found in the import process, clearing the way for the release of the vehicles.

The large volume of EV imports through the Korala border ahead of the budget had triggered concerns linked to possible tax changes. In response, the Armed Police Force had taken the vehicles under control, and the government initiated an investigation.

The probe team carried out an on-site inspection of the vehicles held at Jomsom and Korala in Kaski, Parbat, and Mustang on June 4, 2026. Its preliminary findings also confirmed no issues in the imports through the Korala border.
