KATHMANDU: BYD has started upgrading its top-selling electric vehicles with its new Flash Charging system. The technology allows charging in as little as 5 minutes.

The system was first introduced with the new Blade Battery 2.0. It debuted in premium models like the Yangwang U7 and Denza Z9 GT.

The Flash Charging system supports up to 1,500 kW charging capacity. It can charge the battery from 10% to 70% in just 5 minutes.

A near full charge from 10% to 97% takes around 9 minutes. In extreme cold conditions, it takes about 12 minutes.

BYD is now rolling out this technology to mass-market EVs. The BYD Yuan Plus, sold globally as the BYD Atto 3, will get the upgrade.

The updated model will be offered with two battery options: 57.5 kWh and 68.5 kWh. These deliver a range of up to 540 km and 630 km (CLTC), respectively.

The new version is slightly larger than before. It also gets upgraded electric motors with up to 322 hp.

The Atto 3 was among the top-selling EVs globally in 2025. BYD is now focusing on faster charging, longer range, and improved features to stay competitive in the growing EV market.
