KATHMANDU: Cimex Inc., the official distributor of BYD in Nepal, has rejected allegations that it imported a large number of electric vehicles by leaking government information.
In a statement, the company said such claims are baseless and misleading. It stated that accusations of coordinating with authorities to avoid tax changes or gain unfair advantage are false and harmful to its reputation.
The clarification comes after 774 EV units imported via the Korala border were taken under control by the Armed Police Force for investigation. The incident has triggered public discussion.
Cimex said all vehicles were imported through Korala and Rasuwagadhi customs following proper procedures. According to the company, 649 units were imported through Mustang Customs on May 26 and 27, while 472 units entered via Rasuwagadhi between May 6 and May 27.
The company stated that no special privileges, priority clearance, or unauthorized customs processes were used at any stage. It emphasized that all imports were completed in line with existing laws and regulations.
Cimex also noted that 226 vehicles have reached the Chinese side of the border but have not yet completed customs clearance in Nepal.
It added that the vehicles were imported to meet existing customer bookings and rising demand. The company said its import activities follow regular business planning, inventory management, and logistics schedules.
According to Cimex, all imports were aligned with BYD’s production schedule, transport availability, and operational requirements. It reiterated that all procedures were carried out as per Nepali laws.
The company expressed its commitment to transparency, legal compliance, and ethical business practices. It also said it welcomes any official investigation and is ready to provide all necessary documents.
These include import records, customs declarations, transport documents, border entry records, payment details, and clearance approvals.
Cimex has also urged media and stakeholders not to draw conclusions without verifying facts through official sources.
