KATHMANDU: A District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission in South Goa, India has issued a bailable arrest warrant against Bhavish Aggarwal, Chairman and Managing Director of Ola Electric, in connection with a consumer complaint related to an electric scooter.
According to reports, Aggarwal failed to appear before the commission despite being served a notice ahead of the scheduled hearing.
The case stems from a complaint filed by Pritesh Chandrakant Ghadi regarding his Ola S1 Pro scooter.
Ghadi purchased the scooter in August 2023 for Rs 147,000. Soon after delivery, he reported that the motor started making unusual noises. He also claimed there were issues with the touchscreen system.
The complainant said he handed over the scooter to an Ola Electric dealer in Vasco, Goa, for repairs. However, he alleged that the vehicle’s whereabouts remained unknown for a significant period. Despite contacting the company multiple times, he reportedly did not receive a response.
Later, Ghadi took the scooter to the company showroom, where the defects were rectified at a cost of Rs 18,627. The scooter was returned to him, but he claimed that the issues continued.
The scooter is currently in the company’s custody. The complainant is seeking a full refund of Rs 147,000 along with Rs 50,000 as compensation for alleged harassment and mental distress.
Following Aggarwal’s absence at the hearing, the commission has reportedly directed the Bengaluru Police to arrest him and produce him before the commission.
As per media reports, if taken into custody, Aggarwal is to be presented before the commission on February 23 at 10:30 AM. Since the warrant is bailable, he can secure release by furnishing a bond of Rs 147,000.
Further proceedings in the matter are awaited.
