KATHMANDU: The demand for premium motorcycles is growing in Nepal, with buyers increasingly looking beyond conventional commuter bikes for sport, adventure and lifestyle-oriented models.
Growing riding culture, changing lifestyles, higher purchasing power among young buyers and the availability of motorcycles with modern features have supported the growth of the premium segment. As a result, motorcycle distributors are bringing more premium models into the Nepali market.
The recently held NAIMA Mobility Expo and NADA Auto Show also highlighted this trend. While no new small-capacity commuter motorcycles were launched at the two shows, premium motorcycles and electric two-wheelers dominated the new launches.
Several new premium motorcycles entered the market through these auto shows, adding more choices for buyers. Here are five of the notable new models.
Morbidelli T250X
Vaidya’s Organization introduced the Morbidelli T250X through the NAIMA Mobility Expo. Priced at Rs 620,000, it is positioned as an entry-level adventure motorcycle for riders looking for a lightweight option.
The T250X is powered by a 249.4cc single-cylinder, four-valve, air-cooled EFI engine producing 22.4 horsepower at 7,500 rpm and 22.3 Nm of torque at 6,000 rpm. The engine is paired with a six-speed gearbox, while its top speed is around 115 km/h.
The motorcycle features a double-cradle frame, rally-inspired front design, high fender, long-travel suspension, upside-down front forks, preload-adjustable rear monoshock, spoke wheels, disc brakes and dual-purpose tires.
Ultraviolette X47
The Ultraviolette X47 CrossOver is another new premium motorcycle introduced by Vaidya’s organization at NAIMA. It is available in two variants priced at Rs 685,000 and Rs 1.04 million.
The electric motorcycle is designed for both daily commuting and adventure riding. It gets a large windscreen, high-set handlebar with knuckle guards, single-piece seat and provisions for touring accessories such as panniers.
One of its major highlights is the HyperSense radar-assisted system with ADAS features. The system supports blind-spot monitoring, rear collision warning, lane-change alerts and overtaking assistance.
The X47 uses a 30 kW electric motor producing 610 Nm of torque. It has a claimed top speed of 145 km/h and can accelerate from 0 to 60 km/h in 2.7 seconds.
It is equipped with a 10.3 kWh battery pack and offers a claimed range of up to 323 km on a full charge.
Triumph Speed T4
Triumph has entered the lower-capacity premium motorcycle segment in Nepal with the Speed T4. Hansraj Hulaschand & Company introduced the motorcycle at NAIMA with a price of Rs 650,000.
Based on the Speed 400 platform, the Speed T4 is powered by a 349cc single-cylinder engine producing 29 horsepower and 31 Nm of torque. It comes with a six-speed gearbox.
The motorcycle features a round LED headlight, 13-liter round fuel tank and slim tail section. It also gets a digital LCD instrument cluster displaying information such as the tachometer, odometer and trip meter.
Other features include a comfortable seat, manual throttle-body control, slipper clutch, 43mm telescopic front forks, monoshock rear suspension, dual-disc brakes with dual-channel ABS, USB port, full-LED lighting and 17-inch alloy wheels.
Yamaha XSR 155
Yamaha XSR 155 made its Nepali debut through the NADA Auto Show. MAW Rides has priced the motorcycle at Rs 539,900 for the base variant and Rs 559,900 for the top variant.
Although powered by a relatively small engine, the XSR 155 offers premium features and performance. The neo-classic motorcycle combines a retro design with modern equipment and is designed for everyday use.
It features a Delta Box frame, round LED headlight, teardrop-shaped fuel tank, flat single-piece seat, 137 kg kerb weight, 120 mm ground clearance and a 10-liter fuel tank.
The motorcycle is powered by a 155cc single-cylinder, four-stroke, four-valve SOHC, fuel-injected engine with VVA. It produces 18.4 PS of maximum power and 14.2 Nm of torque. The engine is paired with a six-speed gearbox and an assist-and-slipper clutch.
The XSR 155 also gets USD front forks, link-type monoshock rear suspension, disc brakes, dual-channel ABS, tubeless tires and color-matched alloy wheels. Other features include a fully digital LCD instrument cluster with Y-Connect smartphone connectivity, call and SMS alerts, full-LED lighting, DRL, traction control and electric start.
Royal Enfield Classic 350 Gorkha Edition
Royal Enfield has added another option to its premium motorcycle lineup with the Classic 350 Gorkha Edition. Alpha Automotive launched the special edition in Nepal shortly before the recent auto show.
Priced at Rs 599,000, the Classic 350 Gorkha Edition mainly differentiates itself through its new color and special graphics.
The motorcycle comes in a Light Military Olive Green color inspired by military vehicles. It also features Gorkha Edition graphics and a crossed-khukuri motif on the side panels.
The Gorkha Edition retains the standard Classic 350’s 349cc single-cylinder, air- and oil-cooled J-series engine. It produces 20.2 bhp and 27 Nm of torque and is paired with a five-speed gearbox.
The motorcycle also gets a semi-digital instrument cluster with an analogue speedometer and LCD display.
