KATHMANDU: The Deepal S05 has landed in Kathmandu, and I had the opportunity to take the electric SUV for a short spin.
The S05 has arrived in Nepal as Deepal’s second SUV, following the success of Deepal S07, which has already made its mark in the market with its standout design, features and luxury.
My drive started from the Deepal showroom in Naxal and passed through Durbar Marg, Keshar Mahal, Uttar Dhoka and Gairidhara, and back to Naxal. The purpose of sharing this short drive experience is to provide a first impression of what the vehicle offers. To sum it up in two words, the Deepal S05 impresses with its power and attracts with its features.
The Deepal S05 feels very powerful. It delivers instant torque and acceleration, which are outstanding. As a successor to the S07, the S05 seems to offer even more punch. Despite having a smaller 99 kW motor, the vehicle does not feel underpowered due to its relatively lightweight build and compact 4.5-meter size.

MAW Vriddhi, the authorized Deepal distributor in Nepal, plans to open bookings for the S05 during the NADA Auto Show that kicks off in Kathmandu on August 19.
The cabin with soft-touch materials and comfortable seats feel premium. Unlike the S07, where the AC vents were adjusted digitally through the cluster, the S05 allows for manual adjustment, making it easier to direct air in the desired direction.
Useful features in the car include a head-up display, ventilated and heated seats, a sporty two-spoke steering wheel, and external audio projection that lets people outside hear the music or voice from inside the car. Other practical touches like premium leather seats, ample boot space, front storage compartments and a knee support for the front passenger make the S05 a very practical SUV.
We will still need to wait a few more days to find out how it will perform in the market and learn its pricing details. If you are curious to see if my impressions about the car are true, you will have to wait at least until the NADA Auto Show 2025.
