KATHMANDU: Competition in Nepal’s electric vehicle hatchback segment is expected to increase with several new models preparing to enter the market.
With the rising demand for electric cars, automakers are planning new launches ahead of upcoming auto shows. The hatchback segment, which currently has limited options, is expected to see stronger competition in the coming months.
The segment currently includes models such as the BYD Dolphin in the premium hatchback category and the Tata Tiago EV in the family hatchback segment. The entry of the Nammi Box has also increased interest among customers looking for an affordable EV with practical space.
More hatchback EV models are expected to enter Nepal through the upcoming NAIMA Nepal Mobility Expo 2026. The new models include Proton e.MAS 5, Arcfox T1, and Chery QQ3 EV. The updated version of the Tata Tiago EV is also expected to arrive.

Price competition
The hatchback EV market is expected to see strong competition in pricing. The Nammi Box is currently available at around Rs 3.6 million, while upcoming models are expected to enter the same price range.
This will give customers more options based on price, design, features, driving experience, and comfort. Models offering better value are expected to gain an advantage.
Different design approach
As more hatchback EVs enter the market, design will become an important factor in customer decisions.
The Nammi Box features a retro-modern design. The Chery QQ3 EV comes with a youthful appearance and a crossover-inspired styling approach.
The Arcfox T1 focuses on smart technology and modern features. It is expected to appeal to a wide range of buyers.
The Proton e.MAS 5 comes with a global design approach and has gained attention in international markets for its styling.

Technology and features
All upcoming hatchback EVs are based on dedicated electric platforms. Advanced features are expected to play a major role in sales performance.
Features such as ADAS, connected car technology, V2L capability, infotainment systems, 360-degree cameras, and safety equipment will influence customer choices.
The quality of display systems, camera performance, and overall driving technology will also impact the competition.
Market outlook
The hatchback EV market will no longer be limited to affordable electric cars. Brands focusing on design, technology, range, safety, and reliability are expected to perform better.
The entry of new models and the strategies adopted by existing brands will determine the future leader of Nepal’s electric hatchback segment.
