KATHMANDU: Printing of driving licenses has begun through the Electronic Driving License and Vehicle Registration System (EDLVRS), which the government implemented from July 17.
The Department of Transport Management, under the Ministry of Infrastructure Development, has started printing through the new system to address the long-standing problem of license printing delays and the resulting pressure on service seekers.
The new system will make the process of getting a new license or renewing an old one faster, easier, and more service-friendly. Under the new arrangement, applicant details uploaded to EDLVRS go directly to the security press, which prints the license and sends it by post to the concerned Transport Management Service Office. This is expected to resolve the long-running problems around license printing and distribution.
In the first phase, 3,081 driving licenses from Madhesh Province have been printed and sent by post to the respective Transport Management Service Offices for distribution.
Provincial governments can sign agreements directly with the security press to handle their own license printing. Accordingly, the Madhesh provincial government has signed such an agreement and is printing licenses under its own arrangement. Similarly, the Lumbini provincial government also signed an agreement with the security press on Friday and has started printing driving licenses.
In provinces that haven’t signed an agreement with the security press, license printing has been arranged through coordination between the Department of Transport Management and the security press, keeping in mind the pressure and difficulties faced by service seekers.
With license printing now underway through the new system, responsibility for printing is being managed province-wise, putting in place an arrangement to provide driving licenses to service seekers more easily, quickly, and on time.
