KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office has initiated the process to suspend the driving licenses of 31 drivers for repeatedly violating traffic rules.

The office has sent a recommendation to the Department of Transport Management to suspend their licenses for six months.

According to the traffic police, some drivers were found violating traffic rules up to 16 times. The office said the suspension process was started after repeated fines failed to improve their behavior.

As per the Vehicle and Transport Management Act, 1993, a driver’s license can be suspended for up to six months if the driver violates traffic rules more than five times.

Section 60 of the Act states that the authorized authority can suspend a driving license for up to six months if the driver repeatedly fails to follow conditions and rules under the law.

Drivers whose licenses are suspended will not be allowed to operate any vehicle during the suspension period. They will only be allowed to drive again after the suspension is lifted.
