KATHMANDU: SAIC-owned MG Motor has ramped up production of its new hatchback, the MG 4, in China.

According to media reports, MG Motor has received bookings for 26,000 units in just 15 days of the opening of bookings in China. MG has promised to deliver the car within 39 days of booking, pledging to compensate customers with 50 yuan per day should any delay occur.

MG had launched the hatchback with a target production of 15,000 units per month. However, it has already reached full production capacity due to strong demand. One reason contributing to its popularity among consumers is that it has been recognized as the first mass-produced car equipped with a semi-solid-state battery.

MG is offering the hatchback with two battery options: a smaller 42.8 kWh LFP battery and a larger 53.9 kWh battery.

The car has also attracted buyers because of its competitive pricing. Unveiled at the Chengdu Auto Show 2025 in late August, the subsidized price of the MG4 starts from  65,800 yuan. The car is available in five variants in the Chinese market.

MG is offering the hatchback with two battery options: a smaller 42.8 kWh LFP battery and a larger 53.9 kWh battery. According to CLTC standards, the smaller battery delivers a range of up to 437 km, while the larger one offers up to 530 km. The larger battery features semi-solid-state technology.

The MG4 is powered by a 120 kW front-wheel-drive motor. In terms of dimensions, the hatchback is comparable to an SUV, measuring 4,395 mm in length, 1,842 mm in width and 1,551 mm in height. It has a 2,750 mm wheelbase.

From the front, the MG4 closely resembles the MG S5. It features 16-inch wheels and comes with an infotainment screen ranging from 10.25 inches to 15.6 inches, depending on the variant. Powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8155 chip, the car offers advanced technologies, including a parking assist system.

Nepal Launch Likely

MG vehicles have often been launched in Nepal alongside, or even before, their European debut. Because of this, automobile enthusiasts are expecting the hatchback to arrive in Nepal by December.

Paramount Motors, the authorized distributor of MG in Nepal, however, has not said anything about the arrival of the new MG 4 in the domestic market.
