KATHMANDU: Managing Director of Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC), Dr. Chandika Prasad Bhatt, has urged consumers not to store petroleum products unnecessarily, stating that fuel supply in the country remains regular and sufficient.

In a statement shared through social media, Bhatt said petroleum products are being imported continuously from India through the cross-border pipeline system. He added that adequate fuel imports will continue even during the upcoming election period.

NOC has requested consumers not to store fuel in jerry cans or drums, warning that such practices increase the risk of fire hazards. The corporation clarified that filling petroleum products in portable containers has been prohibited due to safety concerns.

According to the corporation, consumers are advised to purchase fuel only as required to help minimize potential fire-related accidents and maintain smooth distribution across the market.

Public concern over possible fuel shortages increased after Israel and the United States carried out strikes on Iran on Saturday. As a result, long queues were seen at fuel stations across the Kathmandu Valley on Sunday, with many petrol pumps reporting vehicle lines continuing until late evening.

Despite regular fuel supply from India, many consumers rushed to refill tanks and store fuel anticipating possible shortages. Fuel demand has also risen slightly due to the upcoming elections and the Holi festival.
