KATHMANDU: The Security Printing Center Nepal has printed more than 354,000 QR code-enabled driving licenses so far.
The center started printing from November 7. As of now, a total of 354,174 licenses have been produced.
Out of this, 34,266 are emergency prints. The remaining 319,908 are backlog licenses.
The center also confirmed that 175,598 licenses are currently under the printing process.
An agreement was signed between the Department of Transport Management Nepal and the printing center on October 30, 2025. The deal requires printing 1.2 million licenses within six months.
As per the deadline, all licenses must be printed by April 25. However, current progress raises concerns about meeting the target.
The center still needs to print 845,826 licenses. Only around 10 days remain to complete the task.
Officials claim the work will be completed on time. Printing is being done in shifts. They expect to finish within the next two weeks.
At present, more than 40,000 licenses are printed daily.
According to the department, there are around 2.9 million backlog licenses in total. Of these, 1.7 million are yet to be contracted for printing.
The department aims to clear all pending licenses by the end of the current fiscal year. Preparations are underway for further agreements with the printing center.
