KATHMANDU: Subaru has confirmed that it is developing three new manual-transmission models as the company continues to support enthusiast-focused vehicles despite the growing shift towards automatic and electric cars.

The Japanese automaker unveiled the upcoming models during an endurance racing event at Fuji Speedway. The lineup includes a new WRX variant, a special BRZ model, and an affordable hatchback, all equipped with a manual gearbox.

The new WRX variant is expected to use Subaru’s TY85 transmission, previously found in STI models. While Subaru has not confirmed the return of the WRX STI, the upcoming model is expected to draw inspiration from the WRX STI Sport Prototype revealed earlier this year.

Subaru is also developing a new BRZ derivative as a successor to the limited-edition BRZ STI Sport Type RA.

The most notable model is a new affordable hatchback. Subaru describes it as a budget-friendly entry-level sports car with a manual transmission.

Subaru has not revealed detailed specifications, but all three models are scheduled to be launched in phases by the end of 2027.

Earlier this year, Subaru showcased a lifted BRZ rally concept featuring all-wheel drive and a turbocharged engine, although production plans have not yet been confirmed, according to global media reports.
