KATHMANDU: United Traders Syndicate Pvt Ltd, the official distributor of Toyota in Nepal, is preparing to introduce its most affordable SUV, the Toyota Hyryder, to the domestic market. The compact SUV is clocking monthly sales of 6,000 to 7,000 units in India.

Although India-made internal combustion engine (ICE) cars are not doing well in Nepal due to the growing popularity of electric vehicles, Toyota has announced that it has initiated the process of bringing the Hyryder to Nepal. The starting ex-showroom price of the Hyryder is 1.134 million Indian rupees, which is considered attractive for a vehicle under the Toyota brand.

The entry-level variant of the Hyryder will cost around Rs 6 million in Nepal.

Toyota Hyryder Specs
The Toyota Hyryder is available in India with two engine options. The mild hybrid version features a 1,462 cc engine that delivers a maximum power of 102 PS at 6,000 RPM and a peak torque of 135 Nm at 4,400 RPM. The second engine option features Toyota’s well-known hybrid system and includes a 1,490 cc petrol engine that produces 92.4 PS at 5,500 RPM and 122 Nm of torque at 3,800 RPM. The addition of a 177.6V lithium-ion battery and an AC synchronous motor raises the combined power output of the car to 115 PS. The manual variant of the Hyryder also offers an all-wheel drive system.

In terms of dimensions, the Hyryder is 4,365 mm long, 1,795 mm wide and 1,635 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,600 mm. Toyota has equipped the vehicle with disc brakes on all four wheels—ventilated discs in the front and solid discs in the rear. The SUV uses 17-inch steel or alloy wheels, depending on the variant. It features MacPherson strut suspension in the front and a torsion beam at the rear.

The top variant of the Hyryder includes features such as a 360-degree camera, parking sensors with a rearview camera, adjustable seat belts, ABS and EBD. Toyota has also included premium features such as ventilated front seats, a sunroof, a stylish dashboard, a 9-inch infotainment system, a digital instrument cluster, automatic climate control, connected car technology and premium seating in the Hyryder.
