KATHMANDU: Japanese automobile giant Toyota sold 5.159 million vehicles worldwide between January and June 2025, according to newly released data.
Toyota’s six-month sales figures may come as a surprise to Nepali consumers, who are witnessing a surge in electric vehicle (EV) popularity, as the Japanese automaker has only one battery electric vehicle in its portfolio.
The Japanese company posted a 5.5% year-on-year increase in sales compared to the same six-month period last year. The growth was largely driven by demand in North America, China, Japan, India and other Asian markets.
The company also expanded its production capacity by 5.8% year-on-year, which allowed it to strengthen its position in Europe and other regions.
Hybrids, which saw a 19% jump in sales, now account for 48% of Toyota’s total sales.
According to Toyota Motor Corporation, sales of its hybrid vehicles rose by 19%, with hybrids now accounting for 48% of the company’s total sales.
United Traders Syndicate, which represents Toyota in Nepal, mainly offers larger and higher-end models in the domestic market. Popular Toyota models in Nepal include the RAV4, Prado and LC-300, while newer entries such as the Yaris Cross Hybrid and Corolla Cross Hybrid have also been performing well in the market.
