KATHMANDU: Vietnamese electric vehicle (EV) company VinFast is set to enter the Indian market with its two electric SUVs—the VF 6 and VF 7.

The VF 6, a compact SUV, is expected to compete directly with electric models such as the Hyundai Creta Electric, Mahindra BE 6 and Tata Curvv EV, while the VF 7 will likely rival the Mahindra XEV 9e, BYD Atto 3 and the Tata Harrier EV.

Although VinFast has not unveiled specifications of the cars to be launched in India, it has announced plans to develop a comprehensive electric vehicle ecosystem in India, including an extensive dealership network, particularly in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities. The company has set up a manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu with an initial annual production capacity of 50,000 vehicles.

The VF 6 and VF 7 are both positioned as lifestyle-oriented electric SUVs aimed at a younger, urban population that prioritizes design, technology and modern features—not just price and range. Bookings for both models are expected to open in India by June.

While VinFast has yet to officially confirm its entry into the Nepali market, a source familiar with the matter told MeroAuto that Vishal Group has been appointed as the official dealer for VinFast in Nepal.
