KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Metropolitan City is set to install 7,000 cat’s eyes (reflective road studs) on roads within its jurisdiction to improve visibility and reduce night-time road accidents.

The metropolitan city has already invited tenders for the project. Traffic Management Advisor Jagatman Shrestha confirmed that the tender process is underway and construction work will begin soon after final approval.

The reflective studs will be installed in key areas including Lainchaur, Kalopul, Baneshwor, Tundikhel surroundings, Singha Durbar, Khusibu, Kuleshwor, Thapagaun, Naya Bazar, and Chhauni, among others.

The project carries a total cost of Rs 6.7 million. According to the metropolitan city, the cat’s eyes will help drivers clearly identify road lanes and movement areas at night, contributing to better traffic flow and improved safety.

In addition, Kathmandu Metropolitan City, in coordination with the Department of Roads, has started re-marking road lines in several locations. Many existing road markings had faded, causing difficulties in traffic management and increasing accident risks.

The initiative is part of the city’s broader effort to enhance urban road safety and traffic discipline, especially during low-visibility conditions.
