KATHMANDU: BYD is developing a new electric vehicle model tailored for the Indian market, according to senior company officials. The launch timeline has not yet been disclosed.

Stella Li, Executive Vice President of BYD, confirmed the development while speaking at the World Governments Summit in Dubai. She said engineers at BYD’s Shenzhen headquarters are working on the design of the India-focused model, according to India media reports.

Li noted that BYD needs to increase its focus on India to support faster overseas growth. She emphasized that product planning remains a key priority for the company in the country.

Addressing reports about local manufacturing, Li denied plans to set up an assembly plant in India in the near term. She said BYD’s current focus is on product strategy, not manufacturing expansion.

BYD has not shared details on specifications, positioning, or pricing of the upcoming India-specific model.
