Google brings Dolby Atmos support to Android Auto

KATHMANDU: Google has announced Dolby Atmos support for Android Auto. The new feature will allow Android users to enjoy immersive spatial audio directly in compatible vehicles.

Dolby Atmos will initially be available in supported apps and vehicles from brands including BMW, Mahindra, Mercedes-Benz, Renault, Skoda, Tata Motors and Volvo.

Google has also introduced full HD video streaming support on Android Auto for the first time. Compatible vehicles will support 60fps video playback.

The feature will initially roll out in vehicles from BMW, Ford, Genesis, Hyundai, Kia, Mahindra, Mercedes-Benz, Renault, Skoda, Tata and Volvo.

Android Auto has also received a redesigned interface. The updated system now includes customizable widgets, smoother animations, expressive fonts and new wallpapers based on Google’s Material 3 Expressive design language.

Google Maps has received a major update as well. The new Immersive Navigation system provides a 3D view of roads, buildings, overpasses and terrain. It also highlights lane guidance, traffic lights and stop signs.

Android Auto now supports Gemini AI integration. Users will be able to access Gemini-powered features from their smartphone directly through the car’s infotainment display.

Google also confirmed that bigger updates are coming for vehicles with Google Built-in. Future updates will include support for apps like Zoom and other productivity features.
