KATHMANDU: Google is introducing new features in Android Auto to make driving safer and more convenient.
According to Android Authority, one of the upcoming updates will allow drivers to view Google Maps directions directly through smart glasses. This means drivers won’t need to glance at their car’s screen, as navigation prompts will appear right in front of their eyes. Since most cars do not have advanced displays, this new feature can help reduce distractions. However, the full impact of the feature is yet to be seen.
Another major update involves the integration of Google’s AI chatbot, Gemini, into Android Auto. Currently available on phones and the web, Gemini is set to replace Google Assistant on mobile devices and will expand to tablets and vehicle systems later this year, according to CEO Sundar Pichai.
Google is also testing enhancements to Android Auto’s media player and game interface. The play/pause button has been enlarged and repositioned at the center of the screen, making it easier and safer to tap while driving and reducing the risk of accidental presses.
Additionally, in-car games will no longer occupy the full screen. A portion of the display will be reserved on the right side for the back and app drawer buttons. This makes switching apps or exiting games simpler.
