MALAYSIA: Proton’s second electric vehicle model is set to enter the Nepali market within a month. Jagdamba Motors, the authorized distributor of Proton in Nepal, is preparing to start sales of the new e.MAS 5 electric hatchback in the first half of July.
The company has already shipped the Proton e.MAS 5 for Nepal. According to company sources, the vehicle is expected to arrive in Nepal soon and will be launched by the second week of July.

The Proton e.MAS 5 was launched in Malaysia in October last year. The model is based on Geely’s Xingyuan electric vehicle produced in China and has been introduced as a rebadged Proton model.
The electric hatchback measures 4,135 mm in length, 1,805 mm in width, and 1,570 mm in height. It comes with a 2,650 mm wheelbase.

Proton offers the e.MAS 5 with two motor options. The vehicle gets a 58 kW motor in the standard version and an 85 kW motor in the higher version. Both motor options are expected to be available in Nepal.

The e.MAS 5 is available with two battery packs. The smaller 30.12 kWh battery provides a range of up to 225 km, while the larger 40.16 kWh battery offers up to 325 km range on a full charge.
The hatchback supports 3.3 kW AC charging and up to 80 kW DC fast charging. Proton claims the vehicle can charge from 30 percent to 80 percent in around 21 minutes using a DC fast charger.

Inside, the e.MAS 5 features an 8.8-inch instrument cluster and a multifunction steering wheel. Depending on the variant, it comes with a 10.1-inch or 14.6-inch infotainment screen. Other features include smartphone connectivity, a 50W wireless charger, multi-color ambient lighting, and keyless entry.
For safety, the Proton e.MAS 5 comes equipped with six airbags, ADAS features, and a 360-degree camera. The new electric hatchback will compete in Nepal’s growing affordable EV segment.
