KATHMANDU: Jagadamba Motors, the authorized distributor of Proton in Nepal, plans to start sales of the Proton e.MAS 5 from the upcoming Nepali New Year. The company has already brought the electric hatchback to Nepal as part of preparations for the launch.
The e.MAS 5 is a rebadged version of the Geely Xingyuan, developed by Geely. Proton has already started selling the model in Malaysia. In China, the Xingyuan continues to rank among the top-selling cars in its segment.
The hatchback features a sharp exterior design, although the hatchback segment in Nepal has gradually been shrinking in recent years.
Built on Geely’s “Smile” design theme, the e.MAS 5 measures 4,135 mm in length, 1,805 mm in width, and 1,570 mm in height. The model is offered with two motor options globally, including a 58 kW unit and a more powerful 85 kW motor. The larger 85 kW motor is likely to be introduced in the Nepali market.

The car is available with two battery options: a 30.12 kWh pack and a larger 40.16 kWh pack. It also features Geely’s Sendam Battery Safety System for improved battery protection. The five-seater hatchback supports 3.3 kW AC charging and up to 80 kW DC fast charging.
In terms of features, the e.MAS 5 includes an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, a multifunction steering wheel, and infotainment displays measuring 10.1 inches and 14.6 inches.

Additional features include HiCar connectivity, a 50W wireless charger, 256-color ambient lighting, keyless entry, a four-speaker audio system, and a six-way adjustable driver seat. Safety equipment includes ADAS 2.0 driver-assistance technology.
Jagadamba Motors has not yet announced the official price of the e.MAS 5 for Nepal. However, the electric hatchback is expected to target the entry-level EV segment once it goes on sale next year.
