Bagmati Province doubles driving license fees from next fiscal year

KATHMANDU: The Bagmati Province Government has doubled all fees related to driving licenses. The new charges will come into effect from the upcoming fiscal year 2026/27.

The provincial government introduced the revised fees through the ‘Economic Bill 2083 (2026)’ to implement the annual budget. The changes include license application, renewal, and category addition fees.

The application fee for all vehicle categories will increase from Rs. 500 to Rs. 1,000.

The new license issuance and renewal fees have also been revised. The fee for category A/K (motorcycle and scooter) will increase from Rs. 1,500 to Rs. 3,000.

Similarly, the fee for category B (car, jeep, and van), category C (tempo and autorickshaw), and category D (power tiller) will increase from Rs. 2,000 to Rs. 4,000.

The fee for category E (tractor) and category F (minibus and minitruck) will rise from Rs. 2,500 to Rs. 5,000.

For heavy vehicles, including category G (truck, bus, lorry), category H (road roller and dozer), category I (crane, fire engine, loader), and category J (excavator, backhoe loader, and grader), the fee will increase from Rs. 3,000 to Rs. 6,000.

The validity period of new and renewed driving licenses will remain 10 years for all vehicle categories.

The government has also doubled the fee for adding vehicle categories. The category addition fee for A to F will increase from Rs. 500 to Rs. 1,000, while categories G to J will cost Rs. 2,000, up from Rs. 1,000.

Earlier, Koshi Province had also increased driving license-related fees.
