KATHMANDU: BYD’s upcoming electric hatchback, Atto 1 (Great Seagull) has been spotted in real-world conditions with a larger body, LiDAR technology and an updated interior in China.
The new model is positioned between the Seagull and Dolphin in BYD’s lineup in China. In international markets, the Seagull is sold as the BYD Atto 1, including in Nepal.
The new Atto 1 (Great Seagull) measures 4,205 mm in length, 1,810 mm in width and 1,570 mm in height. Its 2,650 mm wheelbase is 150 mm longer than the current model, giving the new hatchback a footprint closer to the BYD Dolphin.
The new model features a closed-off front grille, geometric design elements and polygon-shaped light clusters. It is also expected to be available in a new Ink Green color.
One of the major highlights is the roof-mounted LiDAR sensor. It is expected to support BYD’s God’s Eye B (DiPilot 300) driver-assistance system, with features such as urban and highway navigation assistance, automated parking, traffic light recognition and automatic lane changes.
Inside, the Atto 1 gets a larger central touch-screen while the traditional instrument cluster has been removed. It also features a two-spoke steering wheel and a redesigned center console.
The electric hatchback is powered by a permanent magnet synchronous motor producing 95 kW (127 hp). It will be offered with FinDreams LFP battery packs in 30 kWh and 39.2 kWh capacities.
The smaller battery version has a claimed CLTC range of 320 km, while the larger battery offers up to 420 km. Their respective WLTP ranges are 259 km and 340 km. The top speed is rated at 150 kmph.
The current Seagull starts at 10,400 USD in China. The Great Seagull is positioned as a more premium and feature-rich alternative, while remaining below the Dolphin in BYD’s lineup, according to CarNewsChina.
In Nepal, the current Seagull is sold as the BYD Atto 1 through the brand’s authorized distributor, Cimex Inc. It is currently BYD’s most affordable electric vehicle in the Nepali market.
