KATHMANDU: BYD has launched the second-generation Atto 1 in China with larger dimensions, an updated interior, advanced driver assistance features and new Blade Battery technology with flash charging.

The electric hatchback starts at $9,800, making it one of the brand’s most affordable electric vehicles.

The model is sold under different names in international markets, including the Atto 1 in Nepal. In China, it is known as the Seagull.

The new Atto 1 is available in five variants, priced between $9,800 and $14,900. The entry-level version is around $700 cheaper than the previous model’s starting price of $10,500.

The new Atto 1 measures 4,205 mm in length, 1,810 mm in width and 1,570 mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 2,650 mm.

Compared with the previous model, it is 425 mm longer and has a 150 mm longer wheelbase. The updated hatchback also offers a five-seat configuration, replacing the previous four-seat layout.

The rear cargo area offers up to 1,380 liters of space. It also gets a 94-liter front trunk, adding more storage capacity.

The exterior follows BYD’s Marine Aesthetics design language. Buyers can choose from six colors.

The cabin features a 15.6-inch central touchscreen and BYD’s DiLink 150 intelligent cockpit system. It also includes DeepSeek AI integration.

Other features include power-adjustable front seats, seat heating and ventilation, driver-seat massage, 50W wireless phone charging, 127-color ambient lighting and an eight-speaker sound system.

The higher-spec variant also offers a LiDAR-based DiPilot 300 driver assistance system, marketed as God’s Eye. It supports advanced driving assistance on city streets and highways, traffic-light recognition and obstacle avoidance.

Safety features include a reinforced body structure, up to six airbags and a tire blowout stabilization system.

The new Atto 1 comes with two battery options: 30.1 kWh and 39.2 kWh. Both use BYD’s second-generation Blade Battery technology.

The smaller battery offers a CLTC-rated range of 320 km, while the larger battery provides up to 420 km. These figures are based on China’s CLTC testing cycle and may differ under other standards.

The electric motor is available in two outputs: 85 kW and 95 kW. Both versions produce 130 Nm of torque. The car also features independent multi-link rear suspension and a turning radius of 4.95 meters.

The major upgrade is flash charging, available in the top three variants equipped with the 39.2 kWh battery. According to BYD, the system can charge the battery from 10% to 70% in five minutes.
