KATHMANDU: Construction of a Bailey bridge at Syafrubesi in Rasuwa is progressing rapidly, with completion targeted before Tihar. The temporary bridge is being built after floods on August 26, washed away the existing concrete bridge.

The work has been accelerated through coordination between the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority and the local administration.

Construction of the foundation for installing the new Bailey bridge has already begun. Work is continuing around the clock to meet the completion deadline before Tihar.

Meanwhile, the District Administration Office has provided steel cables and other materials to construct a footbridge connecting Syafrubesi and Bridim. The flood had disrupted movement in the area.

With the materials now available, work on the footbridge is also moving forward. The administration said the bridge would help restore easier movement for local residents.

On Saturday, Chief District Officer Kamal Prasad Pandey and a team led by Dr. Dharma Raj Upreti, chief executive of the authority, conducted an on-site inspection of ongoing construction works in the Syafrubesi area.
