KATHMANDU: The market for small and affordable electric vehicles in Nepal appears to be losing momentum. Import figures for the first nine and a half months of 2026 show weakening demand in this segment.

Although around eight to nine small EV models are available in Nepal, their combined imports stood at just 313 units between January and October 15, 2026. Of the total imports, 171 units belonged to a single brand.

Kaiyi emerged as the dominant brand in the small EV segment. A combined 171 units of the Kaiyi e-Qute 02 and e-Qute 04 were imported during the review period. Together, the two models accounted for 55 percent of the small EV market.

The MG Comet EV recorded the second-highest imports. G.O. Automobiles imported 56 units of the model, giving it an 18 percent market share.

The BAW Brumby ranked third, with LRR Motors importing 24 units in 2026. It accounted for around 8 percent of the segment.

Similarly, 20 units of Henry electric vehicles were imported during the period. No Henry models were imported during the festive season.

The Jinpeng Lingbox EC01 recorded imports of 12 units. Meanwhile, 24 units of small EVs from the Ennui and Honri BOMA brands were also imported.

Despite having a presence in Nepal in previous years, several small EV models recorded zero imports in 2026.

The figures indicate that the small EV segment is struggling to maintain its market position, even as the overall share of electric vehicles in Nepal’s passenger vehicle market has crossed 75 percent. The growing popularity of EVs has not translated into similar demand for smaller and more affordable electric cars.
