KATHMANDU: Tata Motors is developing a new midsize electric SUV, internally code named ‘Kuno’, to compete with the MG Windsor EV. The new model is expected to launch in 2027-28.
The upcoming EV will measure around 4.3 meters in length. It will be positioned above the next-generation Nexon EV and below the Sierra EV in Tata’s electric vehicle lineup, according to Indian media reports.
The Kuno will be based on Tata’s Acti.ev dedicated electric platform. The architecture supports front-wheel drive (FWD), rear-wheel drive (RWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD) configurations. Its flat-floor design and optimized battery layout are expected to offer a spacious cabin.
Tata is likely to manufacture the Kuno at its Sanand facility in Gujarat, India. The company is reportedly planning an annual production capacity of 80,000 to 100,000 units.
Tata has not revealed the battery, motor or range details of the upcoming EV. However, it could borrow battery and powertrain options from the Curvv EV or Sierra EV.
The Curvv EV comes with a 55kWh battery pack and offers a claimed range of 502 km. Meanwhile, the Sierra EV is available with 65kWh and 75kWh battery options, offering claimed ranges of up to 535 km and 665 km, respectively.
Pricing details are also unavailable. However, the Kuno is expected to compete in the midsize electric SUV segment alongside the Curvv EV and Sierra EV.
