KATHMANDU: The Jaecoo J5, dubbed the ‘Mini Range Rover’ in China, officially went on sale in Nepal following its unveiling at the NAIMA Nepal Mobility Expo on Wednesday.

SPG Automobiles, the authorized distributor of Omoda and Jaecoo in Nepal, has priced the SUV at Rs 6.099 million. It, however, has offered a cash discount of Rs 400,000 under its ‘NAIMA Offer’, which has brought down the price to Rs 5.699 million.

The J5 is equipped with a 155 kW front-wheel-drive motor and a 58 kWh LFP battery that delivers a range of approximately 400 kilometers on a single charge. The SUV measures 4,380 mm in length, 1,860 mm in width and 1,650 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,620 mm.

The J5 underwent rigorous testing over 2 million kilometers before it was officially launched in the market.

The J5 has ADAS Level 2 safety features such as adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking. The vehicle also supports intelligent climate control, remote operation and over-the-air (OTA) software updates. The electric SUV comes equipped with Sony sound system, in-car microphone, and a cabin designed with minimalistic elegance. It features a 13.2-inch portrait touchscreen embedded in the dashboard, leather seats in dual-tone finishes and a 1.45-square-meter panoramic glass roof.

This latest Jaecoo model has an independent suspension setup, which ensures smooth drives even on rough roads. Other premium features include multi-color ambient lighting, double-glazed soundproof windows, wireless charging and power-adjustable front seats. Unlike most other EV models, the Jaecoo J5 also offers a spare tire, which offers users an added peace of mind.

The J5 offers a 480-liter boot space that can be expanded to 1,180 liters by folding down the rear seats.

According to Jaecoo’s parent company Chery, the J5 underwent rigorous testing over 2 million kilometers before it was officially launched in the market.
