KATHMANDU: BMW is testing the next-generation X7 on public roads in Germany ahead of a planned launch around 2027. New spy images from Carscoops show that the SUV is getting major design updates, not just a facelift.
The front design features split LED headlights and a larger kidney grille. The headlights are placed lower on the bumper. The front air intakes look more squared and reshaped.
From the side, the X7 has cleaner body lines and wider wheel arches. BMW has removed traditional door handles. Slim, flush-style handles are used to improve aerodynamics. The rear window area shows a stronger Hofmeister kink.
The rear section remains fully camouflaged. The test vehicle uses temporary taillights. The production model is expected to get full-width taillights.
Inside, BMW is likely to introduce a new Panoramic Vision display along the base of the windshield. A larger touchscreen and a new steering wheel are expected. The system will use BMW’s new “Superbrains” central computing platform.

The new X7 will continue as a three-row, seven-seat SUV. It will remain BMW’s flagship SUV. Main rivals include the Mercedes-Benz GLS and Volvo EX90.
The test car has quad exhausts and large wheels. This suggests a mild-hybrid V8 engine will stay, mainly for high-performance versions. BMW is also developing a fully electric iX7.
Both the X7 and iX7 are expected to use an updated CLAR platform. This platform supports both petrol and electric powertrains.
BMW has not confirmed the launch date. Internal plans point to a 2027 model year debut.
