KATHMANDU: BMW has unveiled the next-generation X5, bringing major changes to its popular SUV lineup. The new X5 features Neue Klasse-inspired styling, a redesigned cabin, and five different powertrain options including petrol, plug-in hybrid, electric, diesel, and hydrogen.
The fifth-generation X5 moves away from the traditional design approach of previous models. It gets new double-X headlights with a yellow lighting mode inspired by classic BMW M models. The SUV also adopts button-operated wing-style door handles for a cleaner exterior design.

One of the biggest changes is the removal of the traditional split-folding tailgate, a feature that has been associated with the X5 for years. BMW says the change was made based on customer feedback and improved aerodynamics.
The new X5 has grown in size and is 2.2 inches longer than the previous model. However, it is slightly lower in height.

Inside, the X5 receives BMW’s latest cabin layout inspired by the Neue Klasse models. It features a large central touchscreen, an optional 14.6-inch passenger display, a new steering wheel design, and an updated iDrive system with AI assistance.
The SUV will be offered with five powertrain choices. The petrol version uses a 3.0-liter inline-six engine producing 400 hp and 428 lb-ft of torque. The plug-in hybrid versions produce 489 hp and 612 hp, depending on the variant.

The fully electric BMW iX5 60 comes with a 141 kWh battery pack and delivers 578 hp and 593 lb-ft of torque. It is expected to offer up to 525 miles of WLTP range.
BMW will also offer diesel and hydrogen versions in selected markets. The hydrogen model is scheduled to arrive in 2028.
Pricing details for the new BMW X5 have not been announced yet. The company plans to introduce the SUV in global markets by the end of 2026.
