KATHMANDU : Aayam Intercontinental, part of the Himalayan Organization, has brought new electric buses from Chinese automaker Dongfeng to Nepal.
The company has imported 7.2-meter electric buses with seating capacities ranging from 26 to 30 passengers. The buses will be showcased at the NAIMA Mobility Expo 2026, starting August 11 at Bhrikutimandap, Kathmandu.
Aayam will announce the prices of the two electric bus models at the expo. The company says the new buses will be priced significantly lower than other electric buses currently available in Nepal.
The buses are powered by a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) producing up to 160 kW of peak power. The motor generates a maximum torque of 1,500 Nm.
The two models are equipped with 100.46 kWh and 140 kWh battery packs. They offer claimed CLTC ranges of around 250 km and 350 km, respectively, on a full charge.
Aayam says it brought the Dongfeng electric buses to Nepal in response to growing demand for electric public transport and the government’s increasing focus on large electric vehicles.
The company also plans to introduce larger electric buses in Nepal in the near future. These will include 9-meter and 12-meter buses with seating capacities of around 38 and 52 passengers, respectively.
Dongfeng is one of China’s major automobile manufacturers. Established in 1969, the company produces passenger cars, buses, trucks, commercial vehicles and automotive components.
