KATHMANDU: A motorable bridge over the Budhi Gandaki River at Soti in Gorkha district was swept away by a flash flood on Sunday morning.

The flood, triggered after Syar Khola in Chumnubri Rural Municipality was blocked, swept away the concrete bridge connecting Soti Bazaar and Manbu in Aarughat Rural Municipality.

The flood also washed away dozens of houses along the riverbank and two suspension bridges, along with other structures.

Following the sudden rise in the river, authorities evacuated Aarughat Bazaar as a precaution. Residents in low-lying settlements along the Budhi Gandaki River were moved to safer locations amid concerns over the risk of further flooding.

Authorities have urged people living in riverside areas from Aarughat, Tatopani, Machhikhola and Arkhet to the confluence of the Budhi Gandaki and Trishuli rivers to leave vulnerable areas and move to higher ground.
