KATHMANDU: The government has announced a full tax exemption on vehicle purchases made for self-employment by families of those killed and seriously injured in the Gen Z protest movement.

According to a notice published by the Ministry of Finance in the Nepal Gazette, eligible families and injured protesters can buy vehicles for self-employment without paying import taxes and duties.

The scheme covers petrol and diesel vehicles worth up to Rs 1.5 million and electric vehicles worth up to Rs 2 million.

However, the exemption does not apply to snow vehicles, golf carts, racing cars, station wagons and certain unassembled vehicles.

The facility is available to families of Gen Z protest martyrs and individuals holding identification cards stating that they were seriously or very seriously injured in the movement.

The tax exemption will be available only during the current fiscal year 2026/27.
